We are Jason and Brit Prather (pronounced pray-thur). We are married makers who live in a small Ohio town, designing and building our ideas at our home workshop. Our products are minimal and simple; a reflection of our lifestyle.
What we do comes natural, an innate desire to create since either of us can remember. Our business started in 2015, when we got married. pratherteam grew through outdoor markets, our Etsy and local clients. We've created a core product line, all original signature designs, including our Record Storage Collection and our Home + Living Collection. We work together as a team and are responsible for: photography, marketing & materials, graphics, managing orders, website & Etsy management, production, design and custom orders. In addition to ourselves, we have help packing your order. Our small town ethics of honesty, hard work, humility and craftsmanship are elements we hope to convey to our customers.
Low environmental impact is a goal of our production process and we start with small steps like using a low VOC stain, reusing stain applicators, recycling, turning our wood scraps into products like our Air Plant Holders and choosing a hybrid vehicle as a company and family car. Starting in 2018, we give 1% of our profits to the National Forest Foundation. The National Forest Foundation promotes health and public enjoyment of our National Forests through community activity by creating programs to enhance and sustain National Forests in need. Through our small business partnership with the NFF, every dollar we donate will plant one tree. Since our main resource is wood, we feel this commitment is appropriate in our quest for sustainability.
Purchasing and supporting local and independent business is something we feel passionate about. Our local economy is important to us and we have made a commitment to support our locals by purchasing our materials from their businesses. We currently source our materials from Keim Lumber, Sugarcreek Hardware, Mullet Run Lumber, Hollo's Paper Craft and Dryco Lumber.
Keim Lumber: Established in 1911 as a small rough lumber mill, Keim is now a 4th generation owned hardware store, lumber yard and mill work production place. Exotic and special request woods can be sourced here as well as a wide variety of hardware, tools and machinery. We source special request lumber here, Walnut, Oak and Curly Maple. Located in Charm, Ohio.
Sugarcreek Hardware: Bought in 1991 by Holmes Lumber which got its start in 1952, Sugarcreek Hardware is a few blocks away from our workshop and is a great place for last minute items.
Mullet Run Lumber: This mill is located in Holmes County, near Becks Mills and New Bedford, Ohio. Mullet Run supplies Cherry for our Dowel Series, 7" Displays, Record Ledges and The Album Stand. Also provides our production with some Oak, Maple and Poplar. Proprietor Ivan Yoder runs the business with his family, milling lumber and drying it on site.
Hollo's Paper Craft: Located in Brunswick, Ohio, Hollo's is a paper production place as well as a retailer of bulk paper goods. Card stock for our marketing literature, paper bags and other office supplies are sourced here.
Dryco Lumber: Located in Apple Creek, Ohio, Dryco is an independent lumber supplier in business for 25 years. Supplier of Poplar for our Minimal and Signature Series Racks.
Creating solutions for retailers by designing and making displays and store fixtures is another aspect of our work as pratherteam. We integrate our client's ideas and store layout into a comprehensive and aesthetically pleasing experience for shoppers. Visit our retail design page for more.

In 2015 one of our favorite local retailers asked us to create a solution for resale vinyl in her store. Jason grabbed some records from our collection and came up with a design to replace her 7UP crates. Brit suggested pipe and the plans came together for what is now our triple size Signature Series Design. With the encouragement from friends about this initial record rack, we decided to develop different sizes and our record storage line slowly became the focus of our business. Three years later we have 4 different styles and 9 different sizes.
As designers and makers we found our wheel house in these vinyl LP storage products and we began to shift the focus of our business. It became clear to us that this niche market, was our niche market. Relating our experience with vinyl has helped us identify with our customers and create functional thoughtful products. Jason purchased his first record at age 14, Sebadoh - 4 Song CD. Brit purchased her first record at 15, Ladytron - Commodore Rock. Since, we've both been collecting old and new vinyl. We love music and we love sharing that with our customers, who also hold music in dear regard. Pair our love of music with design and suddenly it all makes sense for us.
